BETA SIGMA PHI

Founder, Walter W. Ross

Beta Sigma Phi sorority is an international women's social, cultural, and service organization. Founded in 1931 to provide women with a social outlet, a cultural forum, and an opportunity for service. There are over 250,000 active members worldwide. Chapters are located in every state in the United States and every Province in Canada. Beta Sigma Phi is the largest Greek letter women's organization in the world. It is not a secret group; it is nonsectarian, and nonpolitical. We have chapters on some university campuses.

Beta Sigma Phi is not a secret society. The Greek letters of its name represent Life, Learning and Friendship, which is the organizations motto.

Typical chapters enjoy socials that range from informal gatherings to gala affairs that often include friends and family. Fascinating cultural programs offer insight into subjects that range from the arts to gardening to in-home businesses. Membership in our organization provides opportunities to contribute to your community, develop lifelong friendships, and polish leadership skills.

Our members raise more than $3 million for local charities and donate over 200,0000 volunteer hours in an average year. Each chapter determines its own service projects and participation is always voluntary. Chapters have created their own International Funds that donate millions of dollars to health research groups, hunger projects, and other worthwhile causes.

Members and their families can receive assistance through our International Loan, Scholarship and Disaster Funds. What Makes Us Unique? Our organization has members of all ages and educational backgrounds. Our sisterhood constantly redefines itself through the diversity
and vitality of its members who share their ideas, talents and enthusiasm.

That is why we are known around the world as "The Friendship Organization."

Sorority Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi

Theta Omicron is a member of The Peninsula Council of Beta Sigma Phi.

Membership to The Peninsula Council unites us with over 200 sisters.  Our chapter participates in The Peninsula Council service projects and yearly scheduled semi-formal and formal social events, which include Preferential Tea, Valentine Ball, and Founders Day.

On a larger scale, Theta Omicron participates in the annual Virginia Beta Sigma Phi Convention.  Six hundred Beta Sigma Phi sisters attend State convention.

Community service is a priority to our chapter; our members donate over 2800 volunteer hours in an average year.

Philanthropic and fund raising events are scheduled on our yearly calendar.

We actively seek new members that would like to be apart of the Ideal on which Beta Sigma Phi was founded. We would love to invite you to a meeting to learn about Beta Sigma Phi and Theta Omicron. Business meetings are held once a month and one social event a month.  Membership is by invitation.
